Social Xleration Urges Farmers to Adopt Organic Farming by Organizing a Training Program

Madhya Pradesh is predominantly an agriculture-based economy, which supports the livelihoods of three-quarters of the population in the State. In order to enhance the agricultural incomes of the farmers, there has been an increased impetus on the promotion of organic farming in the State. An important element in organic farming amplification according to agricultural experts is creating awareness about soil nourishment without using chemicals. To this end, Social Xleration along with its partners Badlao organized a training program on organic farming in Sehore district for 50 small and marginal farmers on 30th May 2018.

The main resource person of the training program was Mr. Deepak Kumar, an organic farming expert from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sehore. He initiated the training by explaining farmers about their benefits of organic farming on soil health and farm incomes. He advised the farmers to start organic farming on a small patch of land under the guidance of experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Department of Agriculture and subsequently scale it up gradually. He along with Mr. Rahul Mewara from Solidaridad India, which works on responsible farming, demonstrated the production of vermicompost and insecticide by locally available materials. Mr. Shiv Malviya from Badlao underlined the need for forming collectives like Farmers Producer Organization for better marketing and price of organic produce. During the program, queries of farmers were addressed.
